PORTFOLIO: Triptychs

Call and response - when a musician offers a phrase and another musician answers, perhaps with a question themselves, and other musicians offer their own responses  - there can be a kind of musical conversation moving the song along in ways that can be purely satisfying.

We have found this to be true as well when developing our triptychs. Whether linked by subject, compositional elements, or mysterious impulses, each triptych is intended to create a melody of sorts that is more than each photo itself might call to mind.

Our current project, Call and Response—Series I in black and white and Series II in color—stems from the calls we hear within ourselves and our world —the human cries to be seen and heard, lost and found, and ultimately to be connected with one another.

The gaps between photos within our triptychs can almost be viewed as commas - places to pause and consider meaning. The titles are meant to encourage the viewer to reflect further, rather than to name the connections.
